What is NBA (National Board of Accreditation)?
The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) is the body that accredits technical programmes in India, such as B.E., B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA and MBA. When you compare engineering colleges in Bangalore, “NBA-accredited” tells you that a specific programme has been independently checked against national quality standards for its curriculum, teaching, faculty, labs and student outcomes.
NBA accredits programmes, not whole colleges. A college can say it is “NBA-accredited” when only some of its branches are. Always check whether the branch you want is on the list.
NBA History and Background
- 1994: set up by AICTE to accredit technical programmes.
- 2010: became an autonomous body, independent of AICTE.

- Look up the college and branch in the accredited-programmes list on NBA’s official website.
- Note the accreditation period. It should cover your years of study, or the college should be applying for renewal.
