M S RAMAIAH Art Science and Commerce

Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce was established in 1994 by our founder Late Dr. M S Ramaiah offering both under graduate and post graduate degrees offered by Bangalore University in Arts, Science and Commerce and Management streams. The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, recognized by the Government of Karnataka. The college is also recognized by UGC under 2(f) and 12 B of UGC Act 1956, re-accredited “A” grade by NAAC.

BA ( Optional English, Journalism and Psychology)

Bachelor of Arts is a three year under graduate programme conducted in six semesters. It is a trimajor course with Optional English , Journalism and Psychology another combination with Optional English, Journalism, Political Science.

Optional English

English literature classes include critical thinking, analytical skills and creative expertise. It aids students’ expression and communication often involving class discussions that help in developing public speaking skills and self-confidence. Student’s language skills and range of vocabulary improves with the assistance of English literature.

Different points of view, knowledge beyond our years, key lessons for the future, writings from the past, creativity beyond belief, freedom of expression, varied themes and concepts contribute to the value of English literature.

English literature aids in using language for specific and aesthetic purposes. Familiarity with the concepts of metre, rhythm, rhyme and other literary devices can improve students’ writing skills by appreciating and applying the concepts.

The enjoyment and appreciation of literature assists students to develop an interest in books and reading not only as student but as they move away from their studies into their adult lives.

Journalism

Journalism – the gathering, documenting, and disseminating of news and reports has been an integral part of human civilization for centuries, offering us connection and vital ways to learn of events and news, both locally and from around the world. Freedom of the press is essential for a fully functioning democratic society and students can play a pivotal role in this by studying and working in the field of Journalism.

Studying journalism, in a bachelor’s program, provides time, mentorship, and opportunities to network and practice the craft of journalism before landing that ‘dream job’.

Alongside studies, students will be involved in the projects of our College News Channel and Newsletter 3600+1.

Students may also gain experience and contacts in the industry by interning for a local Newspaper Industry/ Television Channel/ Radio.

Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of human mind and behaviour. Psychology aims to understand the behaviour of others and gather information about the way brain works in order to better serve humanity. Psychology seeks to understand and explain how people think act and feel. Psychologists strive to learn more about the factors that impact thoughts and behaviour ranging across biological, personal, emotional, vocational and social pressures. Studying psychology equip students to use their knowledge of human behaviour in their daily lives. Developing the ability to communicate better, manage emotions, improve inter and intra personal relationship, adapt oneself to changing situation and enhance cognitive abilities and excellent research and analytical skills are a few benefits of studying psychology in the undergraduate program.

A practical insight into the psychological field is achieved by interning in various psychiatric hospitals, special schools, rehabilitation centres, de-addiction centres etc.

Political Science

Political science is a social science discipline concerned with the study of the state, government, and politics. Aristotle defined it as the study of the state. It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics and the analysis of political systems and political behaviour. The department prepares the students for careers in government, teaching, and research, and for further study in professional and graduate fields such as law, social work, journalism, business, and public administration, and public affairs. The paper Indian Constitution and Human Rights has been introduced in the curriculum of all undergraduate courses, which emphasis on the Constitution of India and importance of Human Rights.

BBA – Bachelor of Business Administration

Objectives

  • To develop ethical managers and entrepreneurs with inter disciplinary knowledge
  • To prepare students to take up higher education, to become business scientists, researchers, consultants, teachers and other career opportunities, with core competencies and also to prepare the students for competitive examinations.
  • To develop IT enabled global top level and middle level managers for solving real life business problems.

Management is required in all types or organizations. The basic principles of management are universal and can be applied anywhere and in every field, such as business, social, religious, cultural, sports, administration, educational, politics or military. Management is both an art and a science.

Creating and perpetuating a successful business has always been a challenge.

The department of Management Studies (BBA) prepares the individuals to plan, organize, direct, and control the functions and processes of a firm or organization. Includes instruction in management theory, human resources management and behavior, accounting and other quantitative methods, purchasing and logistics, organization and production, marketing, and business decision-making.

History of the Department

Ramaiah College of Arts Science and Commerce started the BBM/BBA department in the year 1995 on a small scale with a student strength of 42 and now after 25 years of hard work and success, it has a combined strength of 540 students.

Course Offered

BBA – Bachelor of Business Administration

Minimum Qualification

Pass in 10+2 / equivalent in any discipline with 70% .

  • BBA is a 3 years program that prepares graduates for a career in management.
  • The objective is to familiarize students with a range of skills and techniques required to emerge as future business leaders.
  • On completion, students are familiar with a range of skills needed to undertake management function with relevant techniques to emerge effective managers.
  • The business managers of today have the task of co-ordinating and integrating the activities of people, which calls for effective communications to ensure the final objective of achieving the business goals.
  • The course intends to develop well- rounded individuals who can emerge not just as managers but effective leaders as well.
  • The curriculum offers a blend of the latest in domain specific theories, thoughts and concerns in business along with an opportunity to acquire hands-on-experience of real life corporate functioning during On-the-Job Training in industry.
  • The students are appraised based on their involvement and participation in tutorials, lecture classes and practical studies. They are also assessed by the project work and seminars apart from the examinations conducted by the Institution and the University.

BCA – Bachelor of Computer Applications

BCA – Bachelor of Computer Applications is a three year under a graduate program conducted in six semesters. Students who undergo this program acquire the required qualification to do significant work in the IT industry.

B.Com – Bachelor of Commerce

B.Com. is a very popular course chosen by the students who want to excel in areas of Accounts, Audit, Finance, Marketing, Industrial Relations, of E-Commerce and Taxation. This is a 3-year graduate program recognized by the University and is accepted well by the industry. The B.Com. The course is divided into 6 semesters.

Some of the subjects covered during the course of study are as follows: Financial Accounting, Business Statistics, Corporate Accounting, Marketing, Financial Management, Law & Practice Of Banking, Entrepreneurship Development,Income Tax. Electives are offered in the following areas: Finance and Accounting and Banking and Insurance.

A variety of teaching and assessment methods are used throughout the course including lectures, seminars and assignments. Right through the semester, the student will be evaluated on a continuous basis through Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and End Semester Exam (ESE).

BSc-(Electronics/ Mathematics/ Computer Science)

BSc – Bachelor of Science is a three year under a graduate program conducted in six semesters. It is a tri-major course with Electronics, Computer science, and Mathematics. The curriculum is followed as per the revised syllabus. In accordance with the revised syllabus laboratories and library do get updated regularly.

MBA – Master of Business Administration

Management is a propulsive activity. It is something that directs group efforts towards the attainment of certain pre – determined goals. It is the process of working with and through others to effectively achieve the goals of the organization, by efficiently using limited resources in the changing world.

MBA – Master of Business Administration

MBA department was started in our institution in 2004. The course is a two year programme. The intake per year is 60 students.

MBA (CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM) (MBA-CBCS from 2019-20 onwards)

The Eligibility Criteria

A graduate degree under 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern under any discipline securing at least 50% marks in aggregate including languages from a recognized University in India or abroad.·Honors degree under 10+2+4 pattern from a recognized university under UGC Act having at least 50% marks in aggregate including languages.

Candidates who have passed bachelor / master degree through correspondence / Open University system from this university or from any other university recognized by law are exempted from 10+2 pattern. The duration of the degrees must be three and two years respectively. In case of SC/ST/Cat I candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate of marks obtained.

All admissions to CBSMS and affiliated colleges will be made through an entrance test conducted by appropriate body as approved by Government of Karnataka and State Level Counseling based on Rank Merit and the reservation rules based on the seat matrix as announced by the Government of Karnataka from time to time.

Duration of the course

The duration of the MBA program shall extend over4semesters (two academic years) of 16 weeks or more each with a minimum of 90 actual working days of instruction in each semester and 2 to3 weeks of examinations.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction for all subjects and examination shall be English only.

Minimum credits and maximum credits

There shall be three categories of courses viz.,Core and Compulsory Course, Specialization Course and Open Elective Course/Soft Core Course. The Open Electives are the University approved Courses offered by other Departments of Bangalore University

The credits for each of Compulsory Course and specialization course may vary from 2 to 4 credits. Incase of open electives course, each paper shall be of 3 credits. A student is required to take one open elective course in III Semester.

The PG course M.Com is started in 2019. As of now, total strength of the course is 37 students. The department carries the pride of well qualified and experienced teachers. The department organizes many guest lectures, workshops, seminars and value added courses, FDP’s for students and teachers development.

MSc – Microbiology

MSc : Microbiology

  1. Eligibility: BSc Degree of Bangalore University or any other University equivalent there to with any LIFE SCIENCE subject securing 50% marks in aggregate of all Optional Subjects.
  2. Candidates who have passed B.Sc.,, Biotechnology/B.Sc Biotechnology (integrated) and Secured 50% marks in the aggregate.
  3. Candidates who have passed B.Sc Hons in Biotechnolgy, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, or Biology are also eligible with 50% marks in aggregate of all the optional subject.
  4. The following Graduates are also eligible (in absence of I, II, III above) with 50% marks in aggregate
